City of Girls meets Christina Lauren in this rompy rom-com about a Gilded Age of Hollywood actress accidentally married to her costar nemesis and forced to fake a celebrity romance to save her career.
Joan Davis is a movie star, and a damned good actor, too. Unfortunately, Hollywood only seems to care about her work when she stars alongside Dash Howard, Tinseltown’s favorite leading man and a perpetual thorn in Joan’s side. While they make undeniably great screen partners, Joan has kept Dash at arm’s length ever since he deceived her on a studio-arranged date years ago. Which makes it sting even more when the tabloids label her “box office poison” after several of her Dash-free films flop. Then, right as things start looking up for Joan, a gossip columnist drops a bombshell: unbeknownst to Joan, she and Dash are married, thanks to one of his on-set pranks gone wrong.
With the career and life she’s built for herself on the line, Joan will do anything to guarantee a swift resolution, even if it means starring alongside Dash one final time and scrambling to move production to a divorce ranch in Reno so they can get officially, legally, divorced. But between pranks on set and intimate moments leaked to the press, Joan begins to see another side to the man she thought she had all figured out, and it becomes harder and harder to convince the public—and herself—that her marriage to Dash is the joke it started out as.
