Too Hot to Wrangle by Timothy Janovsky
Too Hot to Wrangle by Timothy Janovsky
Release Date: March 9, 2027
Heated Rivalry meets Magic Mike and Lyla Sage in this spicy, emotional gay cowboy romance by USA Today bestselling author Timothy Janovsky, where a down-and-out burlesque choreographer seeks inspiration via "cowboy lessons" from a grumpy cowboy who can't take his eyes off of him.
When GAGE SPENCER—the choreographer of Nashville's Western-themed burlesque, Lads and Lassos—learns his star is leaving the show and ticket sales are down, he goes in search of fresh talent and inspiration so he doesn't lose his job while caring for his mom who has stage IV kidney disease and needs a transplant. In his search, Gage doesn't expect to stumble upon FRANKIE HARLEY, a hot, closed-off cowboy originally from Montana who can't seem to stop himself from offending Gage every time he opens his mouth.
As an apology for several blundering encounters, Frankie offers Gage "cowboy lessons" out at Whispering Hearts Guest Ranch where he works. Through lasso lessons, trail rides, and line dancing, Gage and Frankie form a romantic and sexual bond—who doesn’t love a little roll around in a hayloft?!—that leads Frankie to audition for the burlesque and Gage to be Frankie's plus-one to his lifelong best friend's wedding.
In the lead up to the wedding, Frankie second-guesses his choice to join Lads and Lassos just to spend more time with Gage, and Gage learns that he is not a good candidate for kidney donation because his genetic testing showed that he has the same disease his mom does. Both their troubles come to a head when a video advertising Frankie’s star turn in the burlesque blows up on social media and overshadows the bride’s big day.
Emotions high, Frankie is forced to admit that he was using Lads and Lassos as a distraction from unprocessed feelings about his estranged family back in Montana and what his life will be like after his best friend/current roommate got married. Gage admits that he was living vicariously through Frankie during rehearsals because he still harbors dreams of being a performer, not just a choreographer. With his new diagnosis, Gage wants to make those dreams come true while he still has his health, and Frankie agrees to help him do it.
After the wedding, Gage convinces his producer to let him take over Frankie’s role in the show and take charge of the dance company. Frankie—knowing it’s a long shot but wanting to help in any way he can—decides to get evaluated at the transplant center. On Gage’s opening night in Lads and Lassos, Frankie learns he’s a match for Gage’s mom and can donate his kidney.
Two weeks later, Gage plays nurse to his mom and Frankie who are both recovering from successful transplant surgery. Gage tells Frankie he has a new idea for Lads and Lassos to make money—“Let’s take this show on the road.” Gage envisions a multi-city tour where they can introduce the burlesque to new audiences and new markets. Frankie asks if they can make a stop in Montana because he wants to show Gage where he grew up and he wants to make new, positive memories there with the man that he loves.
